Esperanto Vocabulary Trees (EVT) is a tool to learn Esperanto words built around a multilingual dictionary. EVT is a based on a model of the vocabulary which emphasizes the building-block concept of the language. EVT uses two basic concepts:

EVT is hosted on Google's app-engine, and you will need a Google account (e.g. Gmail account) to access the system: http://esperantotrees.appspot.com/

ESPERANTO LETTERS

The accented Esperanto letters can be typed as is, i.e. ĉ, ĝ, ĥ, ĵ, ŝ and ŭ, or as cx, gx, hx, jx, sx and ux. The latter format will automatically be converted upon data entry.

ACCESS - ACCOUNTS

As of now, you will need a Google account (e.g. Gmail account) to access the system. You can also request to become a contributor of new words and atoms. Contact jens@ligaya.net.

MULTILINGUAL DICTIONARY AND USER INTERFACE

Both EVT's dictionary and user interface is multilingual, and is currently supporting English and Bokmål (Norwegian). At time of writing, most atoms and words have both English and Bokmål translations, while some only have Bokmål translations and practically none have English translations. Texts shown in curly brackets represent missing translations in currently selected language. EVT permits that you switch language during the same session, however, this mechanism has some bugs, and it is recommended that you log out and in again after switching language, especially if you are using the editor.

DICIONARY TOOL

The dictionery tool lets you display printable lists of words selected on the basis of various criteria. Atom sequence, translation, category and derived semantics are displayed with each word.

Remember to press the Confirm-button each time you change the selection and sorting parameters.

WORD TREE TOOL

  The word tree tool  shows all words which have the same root, as a tree based on the words' atom sequence.

TRAINER TOOL

The trainer tool prompts the user for the translation of words of one or more selected categories (the user translates either from or to Esperanto - in the latter case the answers can be written and the tool will then count the score).

WORD PARSER TOOL

The parser parses an Esperanto word into an atom sequence. The parsing will succeed only if (1) EVT knows the atoms and (2) the atom sequence adheres to the grammar under.

<word> ::= <singleAtomWord> | <multiAtomWord>

<endingSequence> ::= <verbEnding> | <nonVerbEnding>

<multiAtomWord> ::= <prefix>*<root>+<suffix>* [ <endingSequence> ]

<nonVerbEnding> ::= {o|a} [j][n] | e

<singleAtomWord> ::=  any atom flagged as independent

<verbEnding> ::= any atom of category ending and with a verb-tense sub category
