1981 - 1982 (?)
Andunge 22' (Argo)
A classic, small sailboat made of mahogany with ash ribs, a 600 kilogram long iron keel and 14 square meters of sails.
It was bought on land at Bygdø. My first sailboat harboured at Kavringen Marina used for sailing trips not further
than Håøya, Oslo fjord.
1988 - 1992
GH14 14'
A simple, but well-designed, stable and versatile fiber glass open boat. It ran fast with a 15HP Yamaha outboard engine. It was left
after the sale of Skovly in 1987 in need of major repairs. These were carried out with limited success. The boat was moored on a buoy outside
my boat house at Flaskebekk, Nesodden and used for day trips in inner Oslo fjord.
1992 - 2004
With Dromedille 15'
The perfect small fiber glass day tourer. The boat was roomy and very stable. It ran fast with a 30HP Yamaha engine. The boat was
bought on land at Nesset, Ås. The boat was moored outside my boat house at Rudstrand, Nesodden and used for many day trips (and one
overnight trip at Håø) in inner Oslo fjord.
1995 - 2008
Hobie Cat Wave 13'
A smaller and simpler catamaran compared with the more common 14' cat (the Wave could be disassembled and brought on top of car).
It was made from polyetylen I believe and not from fiberglass.
Easy to sail and to capsize which happened a number of times by falling over both sideways as well as forward (with the wind from aft).
It was quite easy to right With the right type of rope. The boat was bought from John Wee's dive shop in Makati and kept on land or on buoy outside
my beach house in Ligaya, Mabini, Batangas. I sailed the Ligpo - Anilao - Maricaban part of Balayan Bay.
1997 - 2000
Fishing Banka (King Fisher I)
A standard trawling banka with a 16HP Briggs&Stratton gasoline engine and 'Solo-style' curved outriggers. It was bought on land in Solo, Mabini, Batangas,
and kept on land or buoy outside my beach house in Ligaya, Mabini, Batangas. It was used all over Balayan Bay as far as Calatagan and Lemery.
1999 - 2002 (?)
Diving Banka (Viking Queen)
A full-size diving-banka with a marinized gasolin car-engine. It was bought on land at Dive 7000, San Teodoro, Mabini, Batangas and
kept on land or buoy outside my beach house in Ligaya, Mabini, Batangas. It was used mostly for diving trips from Ligpo Island to Maricaban and
Sombrero Island as well as a trip to Puerto Galera.
1997 - 20026 (?)
Paddle Banka
These small bankas (paraws) were used for fishing with the simplest hook and line gear. I had a few made to order for 30 dollar or so. Fine for small trips
along the Ligaya shore.
2000 - 2008
Fishing Banka (King Fisher II)
A standard trawling banka made to order with horizontal outriggers and equipped with a Honda 16HP engine and later an 18HP Briggs&Stratton.
It was kept on land or buoy outside my beach house in Ligaya, Mabini, Batangas, and used in southern part of Balayan Bay from Lemery, to Bonito Island and
all around Maricaba and Sombrero Island.
2004 - 2008
Wayfarer 15'
A small well-equipped sailboat, fairly tall rigging with a centerboard. Bought in Manila from Stephen Groff. The boat originally came from Canada and
was brought to Bataan area, Philippines, then to my place in Anilao, Batangas. It was then shipped to Nesodden, Norway and finally sold and moored at
Hovedø, Oslo. I capsized a couple of times both in Balayan Bay and outside Blylaget in Bundefjorden. Sailing solo it was difficult to get it upright
and drained (it had a automatic draining system, but this required some speed which was difficult to reach with the boat full of water).
2003 - 2006
Kayak
A touring fiberglass kayak bought new and used in Bundefjorden from Blylaget to Bekkelaget. It was kept on my beach house at Rudstrand.
I had a more traditional fiberglass kayak in the late 1980s at Flaskebekk,
but no pictures found.
2007 -
Inflatables
I have had various 7-9' inflatables: Aquaquick, West, West Commander used with
Amihan→ and
Ligaya→. They are very practical for fishing and errands
during overnight excursions propelled by oars or small outboards including Honda 5HP, Honda 2.3HP and latest Suzuki 2.6HP. I also tried
a small first-generation electric motor (with a 12V car battery), but deemed it almost useless.
2010 - 2014
Alumarine 12'
I tried this aluminium dingy as an alternative to the inflatables. It was very light and easy to tow, however it froze into the winter ice in Bundefjorden and
had to be freed through some heavy-handed
work with an ice-ax which destroyed some of bolts used in the hull. I eventually considered inflatables to be more practical.
2011 -
Fanatic Sailboard
I learnt basic wind-surficing the first summer and crossed Bundefjorden during the second. I bought a lighter carbon fiber mast after the
first season and eventually had to replace the sail in 2018 (?), however this was destroyed in 2021 during stormy weather.
The board has since not been used.
2014 - 2020
Tustna 15'
I bought this wooden boat from a builder in Tustna, North-west Norway. Too wide for rowing (possible, but impractical), and thus used with a 6HP
long-stem Tohatsu outboard. The pine boards
blackened already after the first season and was subsequently impregnated with lineseed oil. I suspect that the quality of the boards were not
suitable for boat
building. The boat was eventually scrapped after the 2020 season. The plywood plates used on both sides of the stern to protect the wood against
the engine holders
had eventually prevented the pine boards between them from breathing and drying, and they eventually got rotten. The boat was moored on a buoy
outside my boat house at Rudstrand.
2015 -
Hasle Explorer
I bought this polyetylen kayak new from Drammen and keeps it at my boat house at Rudstrand. I have used all over Bundefjorden from Nesset to Bekkelaget
and Nesoddtangen, and also brought it along on longer excursions with
Amihan→.
